About Biology is Neato

This all started with a Merlin. Merlins (Falco columbarius). That was my first skeleton articulation in 2013. Now, I’ve started this little site to show off my work and hopefully share my love of the beauty of natural design.

Skeletons fascinate me; they are one of the most elegant structures in nature, demonstrating not only the beauty of functional design, but also the evolutionary history of vertebrates. One of the things that never ceases to boggle my mind is how all tetrapods follow the same basic body-plan, and this can be traced all the way back to our fishy ancestors. Bones show evolution laid bare. And the functional anatomy of skeletons also shows the elegance of evolution in action.

I also love parasites! When most people think of parasites, it’s with a feeling of revulsion. Not many get the chance to actually see the beauty present in most of them; especially the Trematode flukes, and arthropods (lice, mites, and ticks). I hope that the images I capture can at least get people to appreciate the beauty of parasites (even if they still think they’re gross).
